CDL Helpers: Driver Retention, Data & Management Training

I founded and led CDL Helpers for six years, helping trucking companies reduce driver turnover through employee interviews, conflict resolution, and management training. Working with a small team, I built a service that connected drivers’ concerns with the people responsible for addressing them and turned those conversations into useful operational information.

Across successive tracking systems, we recorded approximately 18,000 driver interviews. Our estimates put average client savings at more than $9 for every $1 spent on our services. The information we collected helped clients identify recurring concerns and opportunities to improve management practices.

We developed the service from Excel-based tracking into a custom software platform. I designed the wireframes and worked with developers to create real-time dashboards and tools that allowed clients to collect and use their own data. I also developed and delivered management training, ranging from practical handouts and small-group discussions to full-day seminars.

This work shaped my approach to organizational improvement. Lasting change required earning trust, understanding managers’ working constraints, and making new practices useful in their daily responsibilities. My goal was to help client teams develop the ability to address problems themselves.

When I closed the company, I helped employees transition to new opportunities and provided clients with their collected data and a final month of service at no charge.
